Job Description
KITUO seeks to recruit two qualified, energetic, dynamic, result oriented and capable person to fill the position of Assistant Programme/Legal Officer in our outreach offices in Dadaab, Garissa County and Kakuma, Turkana County.
The Assistant Programme/Legal Officer will be responsible to the Programme/Legal Officer – Forced Migration Programme (FMP) in the implementation of programmes and mobilizing refugee and host communities in Dadaab on legal inclusion in collaboration with state and non-state actors. Also responsible for writing reports, providing legal aid and support and writing monitoring and donor reports as set individual performance against the set targets.
Key duties and responsibilities include:
• Assist the Programme/Legal Officer – Forced Migration Programme in developing reports, plans, project proposals and budgets as well as setting targets, monitoring and evaluating departmental
• Provide effective legal aid and support services to refugee and host communities within Dadaab and Kakuma refugee camps.
• Mobilize refugee and host communities to engage with state and non-state actors so as to advocate for their rights as provided under national and international law
• Support appropriate public relations strategies designed to promote KITUO’s image and relations with all stakeholders.
• Represent KITUO in partner meetings in Dadaab and Kakuma for enhanced protection for refugees
• Provide support to KITUO refugee paralegals in Dadaab and Kakuma and incentive workers in the legal inclusion programming
• Prepare monthly and annual
• Support fundraising efforts of the programme
Minimum Qualifications and Training: Bachelor’s Degree in Laws with relevant training and practical experience in refugee law and protection. Admission to the Bar will be an added advantage.
Relevant Experience: The successful candidate must demonstrate a track record of success in refugee protection, community work and community organizing for a period of for a minimum of one (1) year.
Skills: Must be proactive with strong communication, interpersonal and influential skills. Good working knowledge of modern information, communication and technology systems (tech savvy). Must have experience working with communities and development partners and a team player. The candidate must be willing to work in humanitarian settings.
