DEPUTY DIRECTOR, MEDICAL SERVICES (MEDICAL SUPERINTENDENT - KAKAMEGA GENERAL HOSPITAL) JOB GROUP CPSB 03/‘R’ Kakamega, Kenya
Basic Salary Scale: Kshs. 121,430 x 6,070- 127,500 x 6,370- 133,870 x 6,570- 140,440 x 6,770- 147,210 x 6,960- 154,170 x 7,160- 161,330 x 7,810 – 169,140 p.m.
Duties and Responsibilities
Reporting: The Medical Superintendent shall be the Chief Executive Officer for the Hospital. He/She shall report to the Chief Officer, Health Services
i. Perform a leading role in policy formulation for the smooth running of the hospital;
ii. Ensure health policy interpretation, implementation, coordination, monitoring and evaluation;
iii. Direct the development and implementation of short term and long-term objectives, policies, budgets and operational plans of the hospital which are aligned to national objectives;
iv. Represent the hospital in the Government forums, the public and other stakeholders;
v. Serve as secretary to hospital management board;
vi. Responsible for delivery of quality services at the hospital;
vii. Setting, meeting and sustaining standards for the hospital; and
viii. Ensure health education is undertaken periodically at the hospital.
Requirements for Appointment
For appointment to this grade, an officer must:-
i. Have served as a Senior Assistant Director Medical Services Job Group CPSB 04 ‘Q’ and above for a minimum of three (3) years;
ii. Have a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degree from a university recognized in Kenya;
iii. Have a Master’s degree in Medicine, Public Health or Health Systems Management from a university recognized in Kenya;
iv. Certificate of registration by a relevant regulatory body;
v. Valid practicing license from the respective regulatory body;
vi. Certificate in Senior Management Course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognized institution;
vii. Certificate in a Strategic Leadership Development Program (SLDP) lasting not less than six weeks (6) or its equivalent qualification from a recognized institution will be an added advantage;
viii. Have demonstrated leadership and good performance in the previous assignments;
ix. Shown merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results;
x. Demonstrated excellent administrative capability coupled with broad professional experience and competence; and
xi. Excellent time management and organization skills.
