TOURISM OFFICER I, JOB GROUP ‘K’ ONE (1) POST
Salary scale: Kshs: 38,270 x 1,470 – 39,740 x 1,520 - 41,260 x 1,710 – 42,970 x 1,920 – 44,890 x 2,000 - 46,890 x 2,110 – 49,000 x 2,170 – 51,170p.m.
Duties and Responsibilities
Duties and responsibilities at this level will entail:
(i) Identifying and documenting tourism products and identifying Small and Medium
Tourism Enterprises (SMTE’s) and community based tourism projects;
(ii) Liaising with tourism stakeholders on issues related to tourism in the county;
(iii) Inspecting and preparing reports on tourism facilities and service providers;
(iv) Collecting and compiling information on tourism facilities and services for the
development of tourism guide books;
(v) Undertaking domestic tourism promotion, collecting and maintaining data on
tourism statistics;
(vi) Maintaining a register on tourism facilities and services; and identifying suitable
locations in the for mounting tourist signages.
Requirements for Appointment
For appointment to this grade, an officer must have:-
(i) Served in the grade of Tourism Officer II for a minimum period of three (3) years
or a busy tourism organization;
(ii) Bachelors degree in any of the following disciplines: Tourism, Tourism
Management, Tourism and Hospitality Management, Eco-Tourism, Hotel and
Institutional Management and Information Technology, Environmental Studies,
Travel and Tour Operations Management, International Tourism Management,
Hospitality Management, Travel and Tourism Management Hotel and Hospitality
Management, Sociology, Geography Business Administration, Commerce
(Marketing option) or International Relations or equivalent qualification from a
recognized institution;
(iii)Be a person of integrity;
(iv)Certificate in computer application; and
(v) Shown merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results.
(vi)Meets the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya 2010.
