Senior Lecturer – Health System Management Based in KeMU Nairobi Campus
Reports to the COD
Main Purpose of the Job: To develop, manage and monitor implementation of Health Systems management programmes
and related activities in the university.
Duties and responsibilities include:
I. Teaching and training in the area of Health Systems Management.
II. Curricula development and Review
III. Conduct Research and Innovation activities
IV. Engage in fund-raising activities in the Department
V. Student supervision and mentoring
VI. Mentoring of junior staff
VII. Publications and other forms of dissemination of knowledge
VIII. Engage in professional development activities
IX. Ensure adherence to quality assurance and accreditation requirements by relevant regulatory bodies
X. To support the Head of Department and other programme leaders in the department to manage the ongoing
strategic development of programmes and administration in the department.
XI. To assess students’ overall performance, through setting/ marking programme work, practical sessions,
supervisions, fieldwork and examinations, providing appropriate feedback to students.
XII. Engage in any other duties that may be assigned by the Head of Department, on behalf of the Vice Chancellor,
from time to time.
Required Qualifications and experience
I. Holder of PhD in Health Systems Management or related field.
II. Holder of a Masters Degree in Health System Management or related field and has worked in a hospital or a healthrelated organization will be an added advantage.
III. Holder of a first degree in Health System Management or in related field
IV. Evidence of peer review publications (32 points from the time appointed as a lecturer)
V. Registration with relevant professional bodies
VI. At least three (3) years of full-time teaching at university level as a Lecturer or persons from research institutions,
practice/industry with requisite academic qualifications and experience will also be considered.
VII. Supervised three (3) post graduate students to completion
VIII. Familiarity with quality assurance and accreditation requirements by relevant regulatory organizations; Contribute
to the accreditation of programmes and quality control processes.
IX. Demonstrable ability to lead research projects, grant writing, win bids and generate income is an added advantage
X. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
XI. Evidence of fund-raising capability
XII. Develop ideas for generating income and promoting the subject.
