KMF/9. LABORATORY ANALYST INSTRUMENTATION (KMFRI GRADE 7) – POSITION - ONE (1)
• Basic Salary Scale: KShs. 61,394 – KShs. 79,812 P.M.
• House Allowance: KShs. 28,000 P.M.
• Commuter Allowance: KShs 6,000 P.M.
• Annual Leave Allowance: KShs 6,000 P.A.
• Medical Cover & Other Allowances: As provided by KMFRI
• Terms of Service: Permanent & Pensionable
The laboratory analysts shall be deployed in any of the following research areas: Oceans and Coastal Systems & Blue Economy, Freshwater Systems, Aquaculture and Socioeconomics research areas.
a) Duties and responsibilities of the officer entail;
i. Develop Technical specifications for new Laboratory equipment to bridge instrumentation gaps
ii. Conducting routine diagnostic and maintenance measures to the existing laboratory equipment
iii. Prepare annual work plan for scheduled maintenance, calibration and servicing of Laboratory equipment according to manufacturer’s manual.
iv. Maintain an up-to-date equipment inventory and initiate appropriate disposal of redundant equipment
v. Ensure Electrical and mechanical safety of all bench top installations by arranging for provision of necessary infrastructure.
vi. Read, understand and interpret schematics, ladder drawings, technical specifications and manufacture’s manuals related to repair, maintenance and troubleshooting of electrical instrumentation and control equipment.
vii. Test, calibrate, install, maintain, repair and troubleshoot electrical systems including, but not limited to: generators, PLC’s, electric motors, motor controls, flow equipment, alarm and telemetry systems, heating and exhaust systems, conduits, cable and relays.
viii. Evaluate instrument performance to identify optimization and enhancement of opportunities
ix. Deployment and retrieval of Oceanographic / Limnology equipment
b) For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have: -
i. Relevant work experience in an equivalent position in the public or private sector
ii. Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) with a minimum grade of C+ and above.
iii. Degree from a recognized institution or its equivalent in the following fields; Electrical and electronics engineering or Instrumentation and control engineering or automation and or mechatronic engineering
iv. Proficiency in computer application; and
v. Meets the requirements of chapter six of the constitution
