Job Description
The Nuclear Power and Energy Agency is a State Corporation established under the
Energy Act 2019. It is charged with the responsibility of promoting and implementing
Kenya’s Nuclear Power Programme, carrying out research and development for the
energy sector.
Towards attainment of its mandate, the Nuclear Power and Energy Agency shall
develop policies and legislation, undertake public education and awareness, identify
suitable sites for the construction of Nuclear Power Plants; carry out research,
development and innovation on energy technologies as well as capacity building for
the energy sector.
To support this primary mandate, the Agency is seeking to recruit an open-minded,
self-driven, results-oriented individual of high integrity to fill the following position.

The position is responsible for general leadership and strategic direction of the Agency
in the implementation of its mandate that includes; promoting and implementing
Kenya’s Nuclear Power Programme, carrying out research and development, and
capacity building in the energy and petroleum sectors, in compliance with the Energy
Act No.1 of 2019 in order to realize and attain goals in line with the Agency’s mission
and vision.
Key Responsibilities
▪ Providing strategic leadership in the development, promotion, execution/
implementation of Kenya’s nuclear power programme;
▪ Providing overall leadership in the coordination of strategic research and
development, knowledge management and capacity building programmes in the
energy and petroleum sectors to enhance uptake of new technologies and
innovations for safe, efficient and sustainable energy solutions;
▪ Overseeing stakeholder engagements, creation of awareness and dissemination of
information to ensure support for the nuclear power programme and the research
and development in the energy sector;
▪ Overseeing the formulation, implementation and review of corporate strategy, and
alignment of the mandate, resources and vision of the Agency while coordinating
corporate performance management, risk management and quality assurance;
▪ Overseeing the development of legislation, regulations and policies required for
Kenya’s Nuclear Power Programme;
▪ Providing overall leadership in the management of financial resources and human
capacity development within the Agency.
Key Qualifications
Applicants must possess the following minimum qualifications: -
▪ Hold a degree from a university recognized in Kenya or its equivalent in the fields
of Engineering, Nuclear Science, Law, Finance, Economics or Energy and related
fields;
▪ Masters degree in relevant field as above;
▪ Has 15 year experience of service, 7 years must be in a Senior Position;
▪ At least 3 years’ experience in Nuclear Energy or relevant field;
▪ Is a member in good standing of the relevant professional association;
▪ Meets the requirements of leadership and integrity set out in Chapter Six of the
Constitution; and
▪ Demonstrate Knowledge of Corporate Governance/ Leadership/ Strategic
Management.
Terms of Service and Remuneration.
The appointment is for a period of three (3) years renewable once subject to
satisfactory performance and delivery of set performance targets. NuPEA offers salary
and benefits consistent with scales approved by the Salaries and Remuneration
Commission.
Other Requirements
Shortlisted candidates will be expected to present the following clearance Certificates
to fulfill the requirements of Chapter 6 of the Constitution of Kenya 2010 and the
Leadership and Integrity Act:
▪ Tax Compliance Certificate from Kenya Revenue Authority.
▪ Clearance Certificate from Higher Education Loans Board.
▪ Clearance from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission.
▪ Certificate of Good Conduct from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations.
▪ Clearance from an approved Credit Reference Bureau.
