Job Specification
Reporting to Plant Engineer, Kenya Meat Commission.
Duties and responsibilities at this level will entail:
1. Updating the safety board on site;
2. Ensuring the set safety procedures are adhered to by all staff and visitors;
• Coordinating the safety teams in the Commission on the laid down safety requirements
1. Ensuring all incidents/accidents in the Commission are effectively investigated;
2. Identifying and coordinating relevant statutory health and safety trainings for KMC staff;
3. Inspecting and testing machinery and equipment to ensure they reach safety regulation standards;
• Preparing and continuously reviewing emergency response and evacuation plan;
• Enforcing the use of relevant personal protective equipment by employees and contractors;
1. Providing technical advice to work place safety and health committees;
2. Identifying specifications and ensuring procurement of personal protective equipment, service providers, first aid items and safety equipment;
1. Ensuring all employees, visitors and contractors adhere to occupational safety and health regulations as well as KMC’s safety rules;
• Coordinating regular workplace inspections to identify hazards and risks and recommending corrective actions;
• Ensuring preparation of reports on safety performance;
• Maintaining contacts with Directorate of Occupational Safety and Health Services (DOSHS) and ensuring all workplaces are registered; and Promoting awareness on health and safety
Person specifications
For appointment to this grade, an officer must have:
1. Served in the grade of Safety Officer or in a comparable and relevant position for a minimum period of four (4) years
2. Bachelor’s degree in any of the following disciplines: Engineering, Physics, Biochemistry, Computer Science or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;
• Certificate in Occupational Safety and Health from a recognized institution;
1. Proficiency in computer application skills;
2. Fulfilled the requirements of Chapter Six (6) of the Constitution; and
3. Shown merit and ability as reflected in work performance and
4. Shown merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results.
