The Company invites applications from suitable individuals to fill the following positions: -
ENGINEER, SCADA TELECOMMUNICATION - (KET 6) ONE (1 POST) REF:
KET/5/1C/40/180-B Vol II (12/2023) ON PERMANENT AND PENSIONABLE
Reporting to the Senior Engineer- SCADA & Telecommunications.
Job Purpose
This job is responsible for undertaking tests, commissions and maintains Substation
Automation and SCADA Systems of all KETRACO Substations, to allow for both
Monitoring and Control of the substations both from the local Substations and from the
Central SCADA system at the National Control Centre in Nairobi and to support data
analysis, decision making and 99.99% system availability.
Key Responsibilities/Duties/Tasks
i) Supervises Graduate Engineers and Technicians in section during operation and
maintenance activities of Telecommunication systems.
ii) Participates in review of substation Telecommunication, CCTV and Access control
System project designs.
iii) Performs testing and commissioning of new Telecommunication Systems equipment.
iv) Participates in preparation of specifications for Telecommunication equipment and
systems as per the approved policies and procedures.
v) Participates in Commissioning as well as Operation and Maintenance activities of
CCTV, Access Control and Wide Area Network systems across all KETRACO
substations and repeater stations
vi) Supervises substation Telecommunication, CCTV and Access control System project
works as well as Testing and Commissioning activities
vii) Engages in operation and maintenance activities of the Power Systems
Telecommunication Networks and Multiplexer Systems for all KETRACO Substations
and Repeater Stations to enable and support Monitoring and Control of the
substations and repeater stations both from the Central SCADA systems at the
Regional and National Control Centres as well as all Backup Control Centres and to
provide 99.99% system availability
viii) Issues and Receives Safety Electrical Permits to work and Limitation of Access.
ix) Prepares Telecommunication works reports.
Qualifications & Skills required
i) A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (Telecommunications Option) or
related field from a recognized institution
ii) Registered Engineer with EBK as a graduate member
iii) Registered Engineer with IEK as a graduate member
iv) Certificate of training in Power System Telecommunications
v) Must have minimum of three (3) years relevant work experience.

c) Valid Tax Compliance Certificate from Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA);
d) Current Clearance from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC); and
e) Current Report from an approved Credit Reference Bureau (CRB)
