Job Description
The International Potato Center (CIP) is seeking to recruit a dynamic Junior Research Assistant to provide specialized operative support to contribute with the research project’s objectives and outcomes.
The Position: The Junior Research Assistant will be based in Nairobi-Kenya and will report to the Associate Scientist – Molecular Biologist.
Key Responsibilities:
• Execute operative work on Plant Regeneration and Plant Genetic transformation.
• Support on general Plant Tissue Culture and Molecular Biology tasks.
• Ensure plant care in the growth chambers, screen house and greenhouse.
• Control and monitor the transition of tissue culture plants to Plant Growth Facility.
• Execute daily measurement and weighment procedures to contribute with the experiments daily data base (record keeping).
Requirements
Selection Criteria
• Bachelor’s degree in Horticulture, Agronomy or Biotechnology with background in Tissue Culture.
• At least 1 year experience in Plant Transformation and Tissue Culture preferably with roots, tubers or bananas.
• Advanced level of MS Office.
• Intermediate knowledge of database work.
• Fluent in Kiswahili.
• Advanced written and oral communication skills in English.
• Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills.
• Hard working with ability to handle multiple work activities in an effective manner.

• The position is Nationally Recruited Staff (NRS) position limited to Kenya nationals and permanent residents only. The employment contract will be for one (01) year (with a 3-month probation period) possibility of renewal, subject to availability of funding.
