Job Description
BOC Kenya Plc (BOC) is a leading supplier of industrial, medical
and special gases in East Africa. The Company’s customer base
cuts across a large spectrum and includes public and private
hospitals, food processors, civil and mechanical engineering
contractors, motor vehicle body builders, the informal business
sector (“Jua Kali”) and small and medium enterprises.
Overall purpose of the role
A candidate is sought to fill in the position of General (Country)
Manager, reporting to the Senior Director – Emerging Africa
Region. The position is based in Nairobi, Kenya. The purpose of
the job is to develop and implement business strategies and
policies to ensure that the company continues to grow and
develop in line with shareholder expectations and country’s
initiatives through the review, development and implementation
of appropriate strategies and polices. They will also ensure that
the company operates safely and ethically in the interest of all
stakeholders and is sustainable in the long-term.
Key areas of responsibility are:
• Developing and maintaining relationships with customers,
suppliers and other players in the industry in order to grow the
business.
• Ensuring a safe and secure environment is created and
maintained in all company operations.
• Instilling commitment to meeting the Safety, Health,
Environment Quality (SHEQ) objective of ensuring no
harm comes from the company’s actions to people, the
environment, or the communities in which it operates.
• Develop and maintain an organisational structure appropriate
to the changing needs of the business.
• Ensure that key positions in the organization are staffed
with the calibre of people who are motivated to meet ongoing
challenges, well developed and motivated, to be high-
performers to meet business objectives.
• Ensuring on-going focus and improvement on internal
working relationships, developing local skills and talents, and
driving diversity and inclusion in order to attract, develop and
retain the best talent and build a high-performing team
• Ensuring the favourable representation of the company in the
local business community.
• Ensuring that the company meets its current and future
business objectives in line with the growth agenda of the
Emerging Africa business unit of the Group.
• Ensuring that financial and profitability objectives are met as
well as the long-term sustainability of the company.
• Ensuring that there is increased focus on high-performance
initiatives in the area of Customer Focus, People Excellence
and Ability to Execute.
• Ensuring that the company is at all times maintaining the
highest level of internal controls and governance and that
the principles of the Linde Code of Business Integrity are
maintained in all it does.
• Ensuring that proper legal compliance, corporate governance,
financial disciplines and controls are maintained at all times
to safeguard the company, its assets and its stakeholders.
Requirements
The incumbent will have strong leadership qualities coupled
with excellent communication skills and a track record of
successful business accomplishments. Ideally the person will
be customer focused and results driven, with a high performance
and teamwork orientation. Strategic thinking, cross-cultural
communication & cooperation, negotiation & conflict resolution,
and business acumen complete the profile for this challenging
position.
In addition, you will have the following:
• MBA or its equivalent
• Degree in Engineering, Commerce or Business Administration.
• Above 15 years’ experience in senior management role,
preferably in a manufacturing industry.
