POSITION TITLE: IPC LEAD (1)

JOB SUMMARY:
To provide overall technical advice in the planning and implementation of Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) practices in supported facilities in Nairobi County
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Provides expert IPC technical leadership to county, MoH, and supported facilities. The duties described in this service position encompass advanced professional capacity building to improve prevention, investigation, monitoring, and reporting of the spread of diseases in healthcare facilities.
• Work closely with national/county health departments in developing/review of IPC-specific policies, guidelines, and training curricula.
• Assess the current capacity for IPC in the supported facilities and identify the areas of improvement.
• Responsible for providing technical advice and assistance to facility staff and senior level officials of various collaborating departments and their staff (i.e., hospital directors, doctors, physicians, nurses, social workers). Primary areas include the design and implementation of IPC guidelines, trainings, and monitoring systems essential to ensure adequate implementation of IPC activities.
• Strengthening the capacity of the county health management team (CHMT) to own, provide oversight, and effectively plan for sustainable delivery and management of IPC program with minimal external technical support.
• Strengthening health systems capacity for ongoing and sustainable implementation, monitoring, and improvement of IPC measures.
• Institutionalizing a culture of continuous quality improvement practices in the delivery of IPC program and other healthcare-related services to ensure long-term desired population health outcomes and spread implementation and sustainability of best practices.
• Interact regularly with all mid-level and senior facility and county/sub-county staff to provide technical support for IPC-related projects, as well as to provide valuable information needed for improvement of program implementation.
• Address inappropriate or inconsistencies in IPC program interventions implemented at the country, sub-county, or facility level; finding relevant solutions and training staff to follow new procedures; s/he analyzes issues to see if there is a pattern and recommending solutions to partners or leadership depending on challenge.
• Oversees the work of IPC specialists to ensure facilities are supported adequately in implementation.
• Assist in the development of strategic plans for IPC capacity strengthening.
• Collaborate closely with other technical partners that are also working in support of IPC capacity building in the Ministry of Health and county health department.
• Other duties may include coordinating and facilitating stakeholder IPC meetings, writing progress reports, and providing support to other CDC partners in the implementation of IPC programs.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor’s degree in medical sciences/public health or related sciences
• At least six (6) years of experience working with MoH, public health systems, and/or NGOs
• Knowledge of host country specific health delivery systems
• Working knowledge of the objectives and operations of the USG, or the program activities of other international donor organizations
• In-depth specialist knowledge of USG public health programs, strategies, methods, processes, and techniques used to plan, develop, implement, and evaluate results of public health disease programs
