Basic Salary Scale : KES 147,181 - 207,612 per month
Key Responsibilities
Duties and responsibilities will entail: -
(i) Reviewing and advise on financial and accounting processes in the Institute;
(ii) Developing and implement Institute’s financial policies, procedures and strategies;
(iii) Preparing summary feedback of financial statements and budget variances in order
to monitoring budget implementation;
(iv) Developing and implement project management policies and procedures;
(v) Developing and implementing internal financial controls;
(vi) Preparing annual financial reports, reports to donors and other project management
reports;
(vii) Managing workflow and performance of the team against defined goals and
objectives;
(viii) Managing the annual / monthly financial close process;
(ix) Reviewing and recommend modifications to accounting systems and procedures;
(x) Ensuring correct application of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;
(xi) Monitoring reserve accounts and short-term fund investments;
(xii) Ensuring optimal investments of funds by the Institute;
(xiii) Ensuring follow up on Institute debts and facilitate timely collection;
(xiv) Keeping custody of accountable documents;
(xv) Coordinating internal and external audits;
(xvi) Managing hierarchy / scalability in chart of accounts and accuracy in the general
ledgers and financial statements;
(xvii) Creating and monitoring a system of controls and procedures for recording and
reporting of fixed assets;
(xviii) Managing project budgets, implementation and reporting;
(xix) Ensuring compliance with statutory regulations and International Accounting
standard;
(xx) Coordinating all accounts duties of the Institute;
(xxi) Interpreting financial Policies, budgetary controls and making financial returns;
(xxii) Overseeing preparation of financial statements;
(xxiii) Monitoring financial expenditure trends and projections for the monthly and
quarterly reports;
(xxiv) Supervising staff in the department; and
(xxv) Participating in appraisal of staff in the department.
Qualifications
For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have:
(i) Bachelor’s degree in any of the following disciplines: - Commerce (Accounting/Finance Option), Business Management (Accounting/Finance Option),
Economics, or equivalent qualification from a recognized Institution;
(ii) Master’s degree in any of the following disciplines: Business Administration,
Finance, Commerce, or equivalent qualifications from a recognized Institution;
(iii) Six (6) years relevant experience in accounting and finance;
(iv) CPA(K);
(v) Active ICPAK membership;
(vi) Management course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognized
institution;
(vii) Knowledge and experience of computerized accounting packages; and
(viii) Fulfil the requirements of Chapter six (6) of the Constitution.
