Job Requirements
i. Master of Science Degree in any of the following disciplines: Veterinary Medicine, Veterinary Surgery, Livestock Economics, Forensic Science, Animal Nutrition and Feed Sciences, Animal Genetics and Breeding, Clinical Studies, Veterinary Public Health, Livestock Production Systems, Poultry Science, Veterinary Anatomy, Reproductive Biology, Veterinary Pathology and Microbiology, Clinical Pathology and Laboratory Diagnosis, Fish Science, Apiary Science, Master of Public Health, Applied Veterinary Parasitology, Applied Microbiology, Comparative Mammalian Physiology, Pharmacology and Toxicology, Wildlife Health and Management, Veterinary Epidemiology and Economics, Animal Production or Aquatic Sciences from a recognized institution.
ii. Bachelor’s Degree in Veterinary Medicine from a university recognized by the Kenya Veterinary Board
iii. Registration and retention by the Kenya Veterinary Board • Certificate in Strategic Leadership Development Programme Course lasting not less than six (6) weeks from a recognized institution;
iv. At least 3 years’ experience in the position of Deputy Director of Veterinary Services or equivalent
Job Description
i. This position is responsible for directing, coordinating and implementing veterinary services programs and projects within the county.
ii. Directing animal health, animal control and welfare, veterinary public health and hides, skins and leather development services in the county;
iii. Coordinating the implementation of animal health, animal control and welfare, veterinary public health and leather development policies in the county;
iv. Managing the county directorate of veterinary services human resource capacity development;
v. Managing fiscal resources for the directorate;
vi. Provision and improvement of administrative services;
vii. Supervising and managing staff, programs and administrative functions for the directorate
viii. Promoting and encouraging collaboration of stakeholders in animal health, animal control and welfare, veterinary public health and hides, skins and leather development service delivery;
ix. Coordinating veterinary research liaison and training programmes in the county;
x. Coordinating implementation of work plans and budgets for veterinary services in the directorate;
xi. Ensuring compilation as periodic reports and preparing of performance contract for directorate;
xii. Providing technical guidance in all aspects of animal health, animal control and welfare, veterinary public health and hides, skins and leather development;
xiii. Resourcing veterinary services technical forums, workshops and seminars;
xiv. Providing and improve administrative links between the county headquarters and the field services and disease reporting between county headquarters and the National Directorate of Veterinary Services as required by the World Organization for Animal Health standards; and
xv. Participating in monitoring and evaluation of animal health, animal control, veterinary public health and leather development projects and programmes.
xvi. Preparing the budget for the section.
xvii. Ensure adherence to budgets that have been passed.
