Job Requirements
i. Master’s Degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, Environmental sciences, Forestry, agricultural engineering, irrigation or related field.
ii. Strategic Leadership Development Programme
iii. Demonstrate high degree of professional competence as reflected in work performance and results.
iv. Must have served in the grade of Assistant Director forestry and Land use or in a comparable and relevant position in the Public Service for at least three (3) years.
v. Leadership skills Communication skills, Interpersonal skills, Organizational skills, Ability to work under pressure, Negotiation skills, Ability to build and lead cohesive teams and Problem solving skills.
vi. Meet the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya.
Job Description
i. This position is responsible for regulating urban afforestation and reforestation and improving agricultural land productivity through developing, reviewing and monitoring the implementation of Forestry and Land use policies and standards in agricultural mechanization, agro -processing and land resources management
ii. Handling administrative, human resource and asset management issues
iii. Setting performance targets and standards in consultation with the Director
iv. Coordination of all agroforestry and agriculture land development programmes,
v. Coordinating implementation and review of Urban Forestry and Agricultural Land use policies and strategies
vi. Liaise with relevant the stakeholders
vii. Providing technical guidance and backstopping on River Bank Protection, land use development, environmental management, soil and water management, water harvesting, agricultural mechanization and irrigation and drainage
viii. Coordinating tree growing and regulate tree cutting/ pruning
ix. Coordinating development of project proposals related to land use, environment, soil and water management, agricultural mechanization, irrigation and drainage in the county
x. Participating in monitoring and evaluation of the effectiveness and efficiency of Urban forestry and Land use programmes/projects.
xi. Promoting of adoption of climate change adaptation/Mitigation technologies.
xii. Participate in the budgeting process and expenditure control.
xiii. Strategic: Prepares departmental strategic plan.
xiv. Financial: Act as the Accounting Officer for the directorate.
xv. Operational: Oversees the day to day management operations in the department.
