Job Description

MEDICAL SPECIALIST (RADIOLOGY), JOB GROUP KNH 6 (4 POSTS)
Reporting to the Chief Medical Specialist/Head of Department, the Medical
Specialist (Radiology) will be expected to take full responsibility for patients
under his/her care.

Duties and Responsibilities
a) To supervise and carry out radiological procedures and write reports.
b) Justification and protocoling of radiological examinations
c) Undertaking “On-Call” duties
d) Conducting weekly specialized Interventional Radiology clinics as assigned,
review in-patients for IR procedures as consulted
e) Training, supervising and mentoring post graduate medical students
(Registrars/Residents), Medical Officers, Medical Interns and other students
f) Provision of consultation services to other departments
g) Participating in departmental committees and teams for work improvement
h) To be involved in research in their field of expertise and training, which will
be impactful in improving the practice of medicine in their field.
i) Participate in policy making process at both hospital and national level to
further improve health care in the country.
j) Ensuring data and information is collected, transmitted and utilized to
benefit the customer and service provider.
k) Conducting disease surveillance, prevention and control.
l) Carrying out health education and promotion;
m) Preparing medical reports.
n) Any other duties assigned by the relevant authority.

Qualifications and Experience
a) Master’s degree in Radiology or equivalent qualification from an institution
recognized by the Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board.
b) Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) degree from a
recognized institution by the Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council.
c) A minimum period of eight (8) years’ work experience, three (3) of which
should have been at the level of Senior Medical Officer or comparable
position.
d) Specialist recognition in Radiology from the Medical Practitioners and
Dentist Council
e) Registration Certificate by the Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council
f) Valid practicing license from Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council.
g) Professional Indemnity Cover
h) Fulfilled the requirements of Chapter Six (6) of the Constitution of Kenya,
2010.
