PRINCIPAL LEGAL OFFICER, JOB GROUP āPā ā TWO (2) POSTS
Requirements for Appointment
i. Be a citizen of Kenya;
ii. Be a holder of a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) Degree from a University
recognized in Kenya;
iii. Be a holder of a Postgraduate Diploma in Law from a University
recognized in Kenya;
iv. Be an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya of not less than five (5)
years post-admission experience
v. Be a member of the Law Society of Kenya in good standing;
vi. Knowledge in records of relevant laws and professional standards.
vii. Certificate in Computer applications from a recognized institution
Duties and Responsibilities
The Principal Legal Officer will report to the County Solicitor and his/her
duties and responsibilities will include:
i. The Chief Policy Advisor on issues relating to justice, legal and
constitutional affairs, law reform, governance, rule of law, and
human rights.
ii. Coordinate the development and implementation of county policies
and laws.
iii. Coordinate stakeholder consultations and engagement on matters
of policy and legislation.
iv. Drafting, reviewing, negotiating, and advising on legal documents
agreements, contracts, and MoUs for and on behalf of the County
Government and its agencies.
v. Must be well versed in the drafting of legal documents including
legislation, policy, and litigation.
vi. Ensuring compliance with principles and values of good
governance, human rights, transparency, accountability, ethics,
and integrity.
vii. Undertaking research on assigned legal issues and analyzing
research data and compiling reports.
viii. Preparing preliminary legal documents/instruments and preparing
legal opinions.
ix. Undertaking law review and ensuring compliance with county,
national, regional, and international instruments.
Terms of Service: Three (3) years contract renewable subject to
performance
