PRINCIPAL LEGAL OFFICER : KNRA 4
ONE (1) POST Vacancy No. KNRA/08/2023
An officer at this level will support on legal issues relating to the functions, structures and activities of Kenya Nuclear Regulatory Authority. The Officer will be responsible to Corporation Secretary and Head of Legal Services
Terms of Service: Permanent and Pensionable
Remuneration: Salary and Benefits are those attached to KNRA Grade 4
For appointment to this Grade, a candidate must have: –
i. A minimum period of eight (8) years relevant work experience, three (3) years of which must have been in a supervisory role;
ii. Bachelor’s degree in law (LLB) or any other relevant and equivalent qualification and equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;
iii. Master’s degree in law (LLM) or any other relevant and equivalent qualification and equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;
iv. Postgraduate Diploma in Laws from the Council of Legal Education;
v. Membership to the Law Society of Kenya and in good standing;
vi. Advocate of the High Court of Kenya;
vii. Valid and current Practicing Certificate;
viii. Management course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognized institution;
ix. Proficiency in computer applications; and
x. Fulfilled the requirements of Chapter Six (6)of the Constitution of Kenya.
Duties and Responsibilities
i. Assisting in coordinating the legal services’ function;
ii. Formulating, implementing and reviewing the Authority’s legal policies and procedures;
iii. Implementing and reviewing the Corporation’s legal policies and procedures;
iv. Providing legal risk reviews and providing legal advice on risk mitigation;
v. Representing the Court matters and managing litigation on behalf of the Authority under the conduct of external counsel;
vi. Participating in developing and ensuring compliance with the Authority’s Policies and strategies;
vii. Undertaking legal research and preparing legal opinions and memoranda on matters relating to the Authority;
viii. Managing litigations and advise on procedures, legal requirements on matters relating to the Authority’s properties, staff and any other issues that may attract litigations;
ix. Drafting contracts, internal policies and ensuring that they are in compliance with all statutory requirements;
x. Vetting and negotiating contracts, formal agreements and other legal instruments to meet the laid down requirements for execution;
xi. Initiating required legislation amendments for the promotion of the Authority’s activities; and
xii. Assisting the Corporation Secretary in offering Board secretarial Services.
