KMF/7. LABORATORY ANALYST - RADIOISOTOPES (KMFRI GRADE 7) – POSITIONS - ONE (1)
• Basic Salary Scale: KShs. 61,394 – KShs. 79,812 P.M.
• House Allowance: KShs. 28,000 P.M.
• Commuter Allowance: KShs 6,000 P.M.
• Annual Leave Allowance: KShs 6,000 P.A.
• Medical Cover & Other Allowances: As provided by KMFRI
• Terms of Service: Permanent & Pensionable
The laboratory analysts shall be deployed in any of the following research areas: Oceans and Coastal Systems & Blue Economy, Freshwater Systems, Aquaculture and Socioeconomics research areas.
a) Duties and responsibilities of the officer entail;
i. Identifying the chemical and consumables required for an experiment;
ii. Collecting and preparing samples and specimens, managing and safely disposing samples and specimens;
iii. Maintaining the inventory of laboratory equipment;
iv. Carrying out experimental work;
v. Undertaking analytical work (radiochemistry, radioecology and nuclear based biotoxins analysis);
vi. Maintaining and preserving specimens and cultures;
vii. Recording of experimental data;
viii. Setting and maintaining laboratory equipment;
ix. Maintaining laboratory records; and
x. Carrying out demonstrations of laboratory functions to clients/visitors.
b) For appointment to this grade a candidate must have: -
i. Bachelor’s Degree in any of the following disciplines; Analytical Chemistry, Environmental Science, Biochemistry, Natural Resource Management, Nuclear science or equivalent from a recognized institution;
ii. Trainings in application of nuclear techniques in environmental studies (Pb 210) or food safety (biotoxins)
iii. Relevant work experience in analysis of radioisotopes, radioecology or radionuclides samples
iv. Experience in operating LSC, gamma counter or alpha counter
v. Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) with a minimum grade of C plus (C+) or equivalent
vi. Proficiency in computer applications
vii. Meets the requirements of chapter 6 of the Constitution of Kenya.
