JOB PURPOSE
To provide overall leadership and management of all Umoja Wendani Sacco strategic
operations & resources with an objective of ensuring that the organisation’s mission and
Vision has been met while observing and living its values.
2. MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE JOBS
Managerial / Supervisory/ Operational Responsibilities or roles:
a) Formulation & Alignment of Business Strategies.
a) Work with the Board of Directors to develop, communicate & implement the
mission, vision & values; and plan for short- & long-term goals.
b) Create and implement long term business plans to ensure continuity of business
operations in the long run.
c) Build alliances and partnerships with other organizations for the benefit of the
Sacco
d) Continuously review the Sacco long term strategy and recommend appropriate
changes in line with the dynamic business environment within which the Sacco
operates.
b) Sacco Operations and Oversight.
a. Oversee and manage all business aspects such as Credit, Accounting, Human
Resource, Marketing, Customer Service, I.T. and Administration
b. Monitor daily operations to ensure a seamless flow of Sacco processes and also
supervise daily execution of tasks
c. Risk Management - manage the Sacco’s exposure to external and internal risks at
the service delivery point
d. Conducting regular departmental meetings and organizing the Sacco activities and
events in liaison with the relevant departments
e. Overall Sacco management and implementation of recommendations with respect
to key vendors
f. Collaborate with departmental heads to ensure that the policies and procedure
manuals are adhered to
g. Manage Sacco projects to ensure that they are within budgeted amounts and they
have value for money
h. Preparation of Sacco financial management reports
i. Oversee budgeting, reporting, planning & auditing
j. Develop financial back-up plans to protect business operations in the event of
major crises
k. Develop new & improved service delivery channels and other additional options
which meet the needs of the customers to ensure competitiveness
l. To attend Board of Directors’ meeting and Delegates’ meeting in advisory capacity
but no voting rights
m. To provide information to the Supervisory committee in timely fashion and
implement recommendations
n. Direct & supervise the administration and processing of loan applications by
appointed Credit Officers
o. Ensure safe custody of the office keys
Quality, Risk Management & Compliance
a Develop, implement & review the Sacco Operations Manual, Policies and Procedure
Manuals; to ensure adherence to all guidelines, procedures and processes
b Compliance with the Cooperative Act, Sacco regulations, By-laws and any other
applicable laws
c Establish and review key operational risk, and formulate action plans to minimize the
Sacco’s exposure to fraud & loss
d Ensure client data is protected from the public and secured against fraud by enforcing
access rights and verification levels
e Ensure that Sacco records & statements are properly handled and maintained across
departments
f Promote a risk awareness culture at the Sacco and ensure compliance to internal
monitoring & control procedures.
g Ensure adequate insurance is in place to protect the Sacco’s assets against potential
loss including but not limited to: fire, civil disturbance, theft, robbery, burglary, building
collapse etc.
Business Development & Market Assessment
a Develop & promote attractive products & services to customers / consumers
b Establish a pricing strategy for products and services while seeking balance between
meeting members’ loans needs and the Sacco’s long term viability considering cost
related to members’ deposits, share capital, provisions for loans and operating
expenses
c Build strong relationships with customers and other financial institutions for the
benefit the Sacco
d Stay abreast of competing markets and provide reports on market movements &
penetration
e Network to improve the presence and reputation of the Sacco
f Assess market conditions and identify current and prospective sales opportunities
People Management.
a Identify gaps in the workforce so as to recruit, select and orient competent staff in
liaison with the Board of Directors
b Bring out the best of Sacco’s personnel by providing training, coaching, development &
motivation
c Ensure efficient communication in all levels of the Sacco
d Help promote a company culture that encourages top performance & high morale by
developing competent individuals in the Sacco’s operations team
e Foster a corporate culture that promotes ethical practices & good corporate citizenship
f Ensure adherence to the established code of conduct.
g Staff leave management.
Other responsibilities
a Attending board of directors meeting and advice on technical and compliance issues.
b Keeping the Sacco updated on market trends.
c Resolving complex customer complaints.

a) Sacco Land and buildings
b) Loan portfolios
c) Computers and all ICT related equipment
d) Furniture and fittings
e) Motor vehicles
f) Financial investments/assets
Nature of Decision Making
Strategic decisions such as:
• Implementation of short term & long-term goals of the Sacco
• Preparation of Sacco Management Reports
• Planning & implementing staff leave schedules
• Preparation of both operational & capital budgets
• Setting staff targets
3. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Minimum level of academic qualification, skills and knowledge required to perform
effectively in the role:
Master’s Degree in a relevant field
Minimum level of professional qualification required to perform effectively in the role:
• CPA-K(Final)
Minimum level of personal and professional experience required to perform effectively in
the role:
• Strategic Management
• People management skills
• Financial management and interpretation
Minimum months or years of experience required to have to be appointed to the position:
10 years’ experience in a related field. 4 should be in a leadership position.
