Role Description
The Junior Accountant will be responsible for day-to-day accounting tasks such as bookkeeping, reconciling and auditing accounts, accounts payable and receivables, and generating financial reports. This is a hybrid role with flexibility for some remote work. They will work closely with an A team in the finance department led by a rockstar CFO.
Key Responsibilities:
Maintaining Accounting Processes:
• Support the development and continuous iteration of existing accounting processes, policies, and procedures.
• Assist in the implementation of a new accounting system, ensuring compliance with investor and regulatory requirements.
Ledger Management:
• Assist in the preparation, tracking, and reconciliation of ledger entries.
• Collaborate with the accounting and finance team to ensure accurate and high-quality deliverables.
Financial Reporting:
• Contribute to accurate and timely monthly financial reporting in adherence to IFRS 9 standards.
• Support the preparation and presentation of operating and liquidity budgets, reporting variances to the management team.
Chart of Accounts Maintenance:
• Work with the senior Accountant to maintain the company’s chart of accounts to accurately reflect financial accounting principles.
Accounting Policies and Reports:
• Support the development and maintenance of multi-country accounting policies and financial reports.
Compliance Management:
• Ensure financial compliance with regulatory policies, internal audit requirements, and applicable legal rules and regulations.
External Audit Coordination:
Collaborate in coordinating half-year and annual external audits, ensuring timely deliverables.
Government Reporting and Tax Filings:
• Support the management and coordination of compliance with local, state, and government reporting requirements and tax filings.
Accounts Maintenance:
• Maintain accounts for the company and operating entities in line with International Financial Reporting Standards for SMEs and Financial Institutions.
Petty Cash and Administration Management:
Your skills and experience
• At least 3 years of relevant accounting experience, with at least 1 year with a high growth startup/company.
• Lateral experiences within a corporate finance, investments & transactions, or comparable role will be favored.
• Personal character: high standards of integrity, self drive, analytical and result oriented and a team player.
• Advanced knowledge of online QuickBooks or other related accounting software or tools
• Sound analytical skills and advanced skills using Microsoft Excel.
• A good understanding of IFRS
• Good understanding of local taxation in KE / prior experience dealing with KRA Audits/Requests, Kenyan tax regulations
• Professional qualification: CPA or ACCA or CFA certified or an equivalent certified
• Added advantage: experience in Fintech or East African Banking industry.
