Job Description
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop and recommend to the Board the long-term strategy, business plans and oversee
implementation of the institutes corporate strategic plan;
Advise and make recommendations to the Board and the Cabinet Secretary on the
formation of policies, plans and strategies on development, commercialization and
product of veterinary vaccines;
Coordinate the Institutes development programs, project formulation, funding
implementation, appraisal, monitoring and evaluation;
Manage stakeholder engagements and enhance the corporate image of the institute;
Recommend annual budgets to the Board for approval and ensure the institute utilizes its
resources prudently according to the financial guidelines provided by the Government
from time to time while ensuring accurate and timely audits of the institutes books
accounts;
Establish proper internal monitoring and control systems and oversee compliance with
statutory and regulatory requirements;
Provide leadership to the management and a link between the management and the
Board;
Provide regular, thorough, and prompt communication to the Board on the key technical,
financial and administrative matters;
Ensure that the Institute has an effective management structure including succession
plans; and
Maintaining a conducive work environment for attracting, retaining, and motivating
employees and foster a corporate culture that promotes ethical practices and good
corporate citizenship.
PERSON SPECIFICATIONS
Be a holder of a bachelor’s degree in a veterinary Medicine from a recognized institution.
Be a holder of a master’s degree in Veterinary Medicine, Applied Biology, Microbiology,
Biology, Biomedical Engineering, or its equivalent qualification from a recognized
institution.
Hold a professional qualification and membership to professional body where applicable
and in good standing;
Be a holder of a leadership course lasting not less than (4) weeks from a recognized
institution;
Have at least fifteen (15) years relevant work experience, five (5) of which must be in
senior management position in the Public or Private Sector.
Be Proficient in computer applications, and
Fulfil the requirements of Chapter Six (6) of the Constitution of Kenya.
Any other duties assigned by the Board.
TERMS OF ENGAGEMENT
Three years, contract renewable once.
