JUDICIAL SERVICE COMMISSION
VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
The Judicial Service Commission is established under Article 171 of the
Constitution of Kenya, 2010, with a mandate of promoting and facilitating
the independence and accountability of the Judiciary, and the efficient,
effective and transparent Administration of Justice.
The Commission invites applications from qualified candidates to fill the
following vacancies in the Judiciary.
POSITION: SENIOR LAW CLERK (SLC)
Job Reference Number : V/No. 15/2021
Number of Posts : Two (2)
Terms of Service : Three (3) year Renewable Contract Subject to satisfactorily performance
Consolidated Gross Salary Scale : Kshs. 225,000 – 360,000 p.m.
Job Purpose:
The job holder will be responsible for carrying out Legal Research work for the
President and Vice President of Supreme Court.
Reporting Responsibilities
The job holder is responsible to the designated President or Vice President of Supreme Court.
Area of Deployment: Supreme Court
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
i. Carry out Legal Research work for the President and Vice President of
Supreme Court of Kenya;
ii. Carry out library and legal research on precedent setting authorities
within various jurisdiction both within and without Commonwealth;
iii. Presenting findings within sound written arguments in light of
academic legal literature and case law; and
iv. Drafting well planned legal briefs and memoranda on variety of legal
issues touching on different branches of law;
Job Requirements: Academic and Professional Qualifications
For appointment to this grade, the applicant must have: -
i. A Bachelor of Law (LLB) degree from a recognized University;
ii. A Post Graduate Diploma in Law ;
iii. Be an Advocate of the High Court with a current practicing certificate;
iv. Membership to the Law Society of Kenya;
v. A Senior Management Course or its equivalent will be an added
advantage;
vi. Proficiency in computer applications;
vii. Demonstrated merit and ability as reflected in work performance and
results; and
viii. Met the Requirements of Chapter Six (6) of the Constitution.
Experience:
Served as an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya of at-least nine (9) years
standing or nine (9) years of extensive legal research in a relevant legal field.

(d) Names of three (3) referees; two (2) professional referee and one (1)
character reference;
(e) Certified copies of National Identity Card (I.D), Passport or any
other relevant identifiable legal documents;
(f) Applicant’s recent coloured passport size photographs (2 No.)
(g) Five (5) samples of any professional writings, including but not
limited to Judgments, advocacy submission in court, scholarly
writings or any legal publications that the applicant has authored.
Shortlisted candidates will be required to submit valid copies of
clearance certificates from the following bodies during the interview: -
• Kenya Revenue Authority
• Higher Education Loans Board
• Directorate of Criminal Investigation
• Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission
• A recognized Credit Reference Bureau; and
• Clearance from relevant professional body.
