An officer at this level will be responsible to the Deputy Director Corporate Communications.
Duties and Responsibilities
Specific duties and responsibilities at this level will include but not limited to:
• Implementing communication strategies that will broaden reach and deepen impact of the Authority’s work;
• Advising the Authority on appropriate communication policies, Strategies and Programmes;
• Providing interface between the Authority and other stakeholders;
• Monitoring public perception about NEMA and advising Management accordingly;
• Overseeing branding and corporate promotional activities including content management;
• Managing media relations and maximizing media opportunities for positive, exposure of NEMA;
• Researching, creating and distributing press releases to targeted media;
• Managing the public relations aspect of a potential crisis situation;
• Spearheading web administration and social media communication and management;
• Overseeing organizational response to inquiries about NEMA and maintaining internal and external feedback systems;
• Overseeing general protocol in the Authority;
• Lobbying organizations to integrate environmental conservation in their corporate social responsibility activities;
• Supervising, guiding, appraising and developing staff working under him or her.
Person Specifications
For appointment to this position, a candidate must have:
• Bachelor’s degree in any of the following fields; Public Relations, Corporate Communications, Mass Communication or a related field from a recognized institution.
• Master’s degree in any of the following fields; Public Relations, Corporate Communication, Mass Communication and journalism or a related field from a recognized institution.
• Membership of Public Relations Society of Kenya (PRSK) or any other relevant professional body.
• A minimum period of ten (10) years relevant work experience and at least three (3) years in a management role in the Public Service or Private Sector.
• Management course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognized institution.
• Proficiency in computer applications.
• Good Communication skills.
• Shown merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results.
• Fulfilled the requirements of chapter six of the constitution.
