Role overview:
We seek to recruit an experienced and self-motivated individual for the role of Editor, Business & Technology. Reporting to the Managing Editor, Content Hubs, the job holder will be responsible for the generation of content for business and technology, analysis, editorials, and ensuring that the stories are edited to comply with journalistic ethics, editorial objectives and set deadlines.
Key Responsibilities:
• Taking responsibility for the quality and quantity of the Business & Technology content across NMG Platforms;
• Creating market-leading breaking and brand-defining business content;
• Generating and pitching ideas that will enable the Business hub to meet its publishing targets and maximise audience impact;
• Identifying gaps in coverage of business news to meet the needs of the audience;
• Representing the NMG / brand angle in all business content created;
• Assessing the climate and anticipating likely developments in business and technology for coverage;
• Be an expert in the business world and maintain a wide and varied contacts book;
• Representing the company as required, including (but not limited to) in media, in commercial conversations, in the market;
• Commissioning valuable long-term business content that can be monetised;
• Collaborating with the Editor, Social, Search & Analytics to package content in ways that optimise reach;
• Evaluating news for authenticity and checking sources;
• Checking for legal and ethical issues in journalists' copy;
• Managing direct reports and providing mentorship, coaching, and support;
• Monitoring and maintaining appropriate productivity levels for your core team and book of correspondents and contributors;
• Reviewing the submitted stories to ensure that they meet editorial objectives, house style and journalistic ethics;
• Writing editorials on business & technology.
• University degree in Journalism or any other related field from an accredited Institution;
• Diploma in journalism;
• Minimum Six (6) years of relevant experience with three (3) of those years at supervisory level;
• Business subject expert with great contacts;
• Extensive track record of delivering high-quality journalism across platforms;
• Understanding of multimedia content production on all platforms;
• Knowledge of how to build engagement with a digital audience;
• Strong understanding of data analytics, social media and SEO;
• Full knowledge of media law;
• Motivational leader and coach;
• Encourage an open and creative environment where ideas are welcomed;
• Ability to work quickly to meet deadlines, but also to think creatively about original new ways to tell stories.
