Job Summary
Reporting to the General Manager, Business Development & Strategy, the job holder is responsible for providing independent critique of the company processes and procedures with the aim of causing improvements & innovations. The role conducts reviews on project implementation arising from originated process improvement to capture the quantity and value of the impact of the improvement and/or innovations.

Duties and responsibilities
i. Responsible for the Business Process Improvement & Innovation Strategy across the Organization.
ii. Manage and set up a global governance framework for data driven cost and efficiency improvement initiatives across all regions, using strong data analytics, Six Sigma and tried & tested Lean methodologies. This includes analyzing and interpreting technical and operational data and metrics for problem solving and decision-making.
iii. Coaching and supporting teams in identifying, verifying, analyzing, and seeking process improvement and process redesign opportunities with a view to improving efficiency, lowering costs, improving service delivery and quality.
iv. Working with teams to perform operational project management analytics, checking rate at which milestones are met and deliverables achieved, to identify improvement opportunities.
v. Facilitating independent critique of proposed or implemented solutions, or of new/improved processes, process models, innovations, new technologies and new approaches.
vi. Corresponding with teams to evaluate and quantify improvements and cost benefits arising from the improvements implemented.
vii. Coordinating teams to track and maintain budgets of total costs of pertinent operational projects (e.g. breakdowns or planned annuals) which can be referenced to determine how to reduce the costs & rate in future.
viii. Supporting process improvement initiatives that drive compliance, particularly those affecting stakeholder relationships including internal stakeholders.
ix. Support operations with best practices in maintenance, using Reliability Centered Maintenance, Total Productive Maintenance and other applicable models as per KenGen’s plant requirements.
x. Training and guiding teams in process improvement techniques, best practice and coach employees to optimize their capabilities and productivity.
xi. Own & implement KenGen’s Innovation Pipeline to drive adoption, review and implementation of business viable ideas at regional and corporate levels, using available avenues.
xii. Incubate internal innovation forums as the primary source of diversification ideas for internal & externally viable commercial ideas.
xiii. Set up a robust research & development framework that fosters viable & feasible solutions through modeling, prototyping, testing and system validation.
xiv. Manage the Knowledge Management (harvesting & transfer) for technical processes in KenGen.
xv. Spearheading development of lessons learnt and application of the same to improve policies and procedures and execution.
xvi. Working with teams to develop case studies that show the status of actions taken in the company, particularly about business disruptions or projects to enable executives make better informed decisions in the future, on response and cost management.
xvii. The role will also act as the focal point for the KenGen Sustainability Strategy by taking an independent assessment of the Sustainability plans to ensure optimal return on all three dimensions: (economic, environmental, and social) within the reporting period.
xviii. Ensuring planning, budgeting, procurement, progress monitoring, evaluation, and reporting.
Person Specifications
For appointment to this grade, an officer must have:
i. Minimum relevant experience of twelve (12) years with at least four (4) years in a management role.
ii. Undergraduate degree in a Technical, Science, Business or Engineering-related field.
iii. Possession of a master’s degree in a managerial, strategy or in a business-related field is an added advantage.
iv. Certification in Six Sigma Green Belt, Kaizen, Lean or equivalent is required. Black/Master Black belt is an asset.
v. Relevant professional qualifications and membership in a related field from a recognized institution is mandatory.
vi. A professional qualification in Project Management would be an added advantage.
vii. Membership with Institution of Engineers of Kenya in good standing
viii. Qualification in a Leadership Course from a recognized institution.
ix. A proven track record in process improvement programs, improvement analytical experience from a similar role, including project management and business analysis.
x. Excellent understanding of continuous improvement concepts including Six Sigma, Lean and Kaizen.
xi. Strong analytical, project and product management skills, including a thorough understanding of how to interpret business needs and translate them into operational requirements.
xii. Deep understanding of ISO 9001, its basic principles and requirements is an advantage.
xiii. Fulfilled the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution.
xiv. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group of Partners, senior managers, and subject matter experts.
xv. Relevant experience in the energy sector and familiarity with key sector stakeholders.
xvi. Strong leadership and competence in managing diverse teams. Proven experience in engaging top management teams, anticipating, filtering, and accelerating issues and problem resolution across divisions, departments, and teams.
