SENIOR LEGAL COUNSEL (1 POST) JOB GROUP ‘L’-VACANCY NO.

Requirements for Appointment
i. A Kenyan citizen;
ii. Holder of Bachelors of Laws (LLB) degree from a recognized university;
iii. Hold Postgraduate Diploma in Law from the Council of Legal Education;
iv. Master’s degree in law or any other social science from a recognized institution
will be an added advantage;
v. Must be an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya for at least three (3) years and
having a current practicing certificate;
vi. Must be a member of the Law society of Kenya (LSK);
vii. Must meet the requirements of chapter six of the Constitution of Kenya 2010;
viii. Experience in legislative drafting from a reputable institution;
ix. Proficiency in computer applications; and
x. Possess legal research skills.
The duties and responsibilities include: -
Key duties to be performed include:
i. Negotiate, draft, vet and interpret documents and agreements for and on behalf
of the county executive
ii. Formulate and review of county laws in consultation with the relevant body;
iii. Prepare legal opinion to County Executive on legislative and other legal matters;
iv. Prepare cabinet memoranda;
v. Support in drafting and Publication of legislative proposals for the County
Government
vi. Initiating and undertaking research on emerging legal issues and preparing Legal
opinions and briefs;
vii. Shall, on the instructions of the county attorney, represent the county executive in
court or in any other legal proceedings to which the county executive is a party,
other than criminal proceedings;
viii. Perform any other duties that may be delegated by the County Attorney.
