Overall Role Purpose
The role of Livestock Farm Supervisor is to oversee and supervise farm operations at the livestock section such as; livestock management, fodder cultivation and other livestock related enterprises. The livestock Supervisor is responsible for supervising dairy and poultry attendants ; therefore leadership skills are highly beneficial.
Key Responsibilities
• Train and supervise farm workers in animal care procedures, maintenance duties, and safety precautions.
• Monitor animal care, maintenance, breeding, or packing and transfer activities to ensure work is done correctly.
• Observe animals for signs of illness, injury, or unusual behavior, notifying veterinarians or managers as warranted.
• Assign tasks such as feeding and treatment of animals, and cleaning and maintenance of animal quarters.
• Perform the same animal care duties as subordinates.
• Prepare reports concerning facility activities, employees' time records, and animal treatment.
• Maintain operational records and copies of personnel records for casual and contracted employees.
• Supervise a wide range of farm operations including cultivation of fodder.
• Oversee overall animal husbandry including cleanliness, AI, feeding, treatment, and calving.
• Transport or arrange for transport of animals, equipment, food, animal feed, and other supplies to and from the farm.
• Oversees the work of farming units and suggests improvements and changes.
• Inspect farm buildings and equipment, ensuring routine maintenance is carried out and repairs are made when necessary.
• Call for installation, maintenance and regular monitoring of water system.
• Ensure and enforce compliance with government regulations and health and safety standards.
• Plan budgets and arrange for purchase of animals, feed, or supplies.
Person’s Specifications
• Certificates in animal husbandry.
• Artificial Insemination certificate.
• Experience in animal handling.
• Knowledgeable in feed conservation.
• Experience with farm machinery operation and maintenance will be an added advantage.
