Job Description
KIRDI Board of Directors seeks to recruit a Director on a (3) year contract, renewable once, based upon performance.
The Director shall report to the Board of Directors.
DIRECTOR/CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICE
Key Responsibilities of the Director/CEO include the following:
i. Serve as the Accounting Officer of the Institute
ii. Implement all Board policies and decisions
iii. Coordinate and implement KIRDI strategic plan that will deliver on core mandate of the institute
iv. Serve as the link between the Board and the Management
v. Be responsible for the implementation of the Performance Contract as signed between the Board of Directors and Government
vi. Provide strategic leadership, draw and execute plans for the effective implementation of the institutes strategic plan and Vision 2030
vii. Initiate, review and oversee the implementation of policies and programmes as well as harmonize operational procedures to ensure maintenance of high levels of performance and accountability
viii. Establish and maintain collaborations with Key national and international partners to promote industrial research and development
ix. Ability to translate national goals, policies and strategies to research programs and projects.
x. Manage and control the institutes fi nancial and other resources in an eff icient and cost eff ective manner in consultation with the Board
xi. Identify and develop the institutes competence needs to drive programmes in line with the Boards approved Strategic Plan
xii. Prepare Annual work plans and budgets and present to the Board for approvals
xiii. Transform KIRDI to a self-sustaining Institute
xiv. Perform any other duties that may be assigned by the Board
Specific Qualifications and Experience
The applicant;
i. Must be a Kenyan citizen
ii. Possess a PhD in any of the following fi elds: Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Textile technology, Electrical Engineering, Mining, power
Resources, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Chemistry, Food technology, Ceramics and Clay Technology, Environmental science, Information
technology and Computer Engineering or its equivalent from a recognized institution
iii. Has at least fifteen (15) years’ relevant work experience of which fi ve (5) years must have been in a Senior management level of public or private
institution
iv. Must have published scientific papers in referred journals.
v. He/ She should have undergone Management and leadership training/course for a minimum period of six (6) weeks
vi. Must have clear demonstration of managerial, administrative and organizational development skills
vii. Demonstrate capability in generating revenue
viii. Be a member of professional body.
