DEPUTY DIRECTOR, SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT, JOB GROUP ‘Q’ (CPSB 04) – ONE (1) POST

Salary Scale: Kshs. 99,000 x 5,010 – 104,910 x 5,240 – 110,150 x 5,500 – 115,650 x
5,780 – 121,430 x 6,070 – 127,500 x 6,370 – 133,870 p.m.
Duties and Responsibilities
An Officer at this level will be responsible to the Director social development. Duties and
responsibilities at this level will entail: interpreting policies and regulations in the area of
jurisdiction; coordinating socio-economic empowerment activities; researching on and
documentation of socio issues, including benchmarking on best practices; overseeing the
implementation of socio economic related Funds; coordinating programmes that are
community based; promoting partnership and engaging with stakeholders on community
based related matters; analyzing and interpreting socio economic disaggregated data;
coordinating, monitoring and evaluating community based projects/programmes;
managing and control of financial and other resources in the department; developing
performance contracts, annual work plans and strategies for the section; and supervising,
mentoring and developing officers in the Division.
Requirements for Appointment
For appointment to this grade, an officer must have:
i. Served in the grade of Assistant Director, Social Development for a minimum
period of three (3) years;
ii. Bachelor’s degree in any of the following disciplines:- Sociology, Social Work,
Psychology, Community Development, Project Development and Management,
Disability Studies, Anthropology, Counselling, Business Administration /
Management, Rehabilitation Studies, Gerontology, Education, Economics or
equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;
iii. Master’s degree in any of the following disciplines:- Sociology, Social Work,
Psychology, Community Development, Project Development and Management,
Anthropology, Counselling, Social Studies, Project Planning and Management,
Public Policy, Disaster Management, Business Administration/Management or
equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;
iv. Certificate in Social Work, Community Development or equivalent qualification
lasting not less than one (1) month from a recognized institution;
v. Been a person of integrity;
vi. Certificate in Strategic Leadership Course from a recognized institution;
vii. Certificate in computer applications; and
viii. Demonstrated outstanding professional competence and managerial ability
as reflected in work performance and results.
