Job Description
SEZA is seeking to recruit a highly motivated, skilled, dynamic, results oriented and innovative individual of high integrity to fill vacant positions. SEZA invites applications from suitably qualified persons to fill the position of Corporation Secretary/Director Legal Affairs and Licensing.
Job Responsibilities
i. Advising the Authority on various legal matters and monitoring the compliance with various applicable regulations;
ii. Advising SEZA and coordination with the functional areas in relation to various legal requirements which must be complied with and the legal obstacles which must be overcome in order to obtain the Authority ’s targeted results;
iii. Initiating policy, strategy and programs for legal services
iv. Overseeing and managing compliance issues within the Authority;
v. Providing timely legal advice to assist SEZA in making an informed decision;
vi. Developing Board calendars;
vii. Liaison with Attorney General (AG) office and advise SEZA on legal matters;
viii. Keeping safe custody of the seal of SEZA and account to the Board for its use
ix. Assisting the Board in carrying out; Board induction and training, Updating the Board and Committee charters, Preparation of Board work plans, Board evaluation, Governance audit, Implementation of the Code of Conduct and Ethics;
x. Ensuring timely compliance with rules and regulations affecting the Authority, including the Code of Conduct and Ethics and;
xi. Attending to all legal matters of SEZA including advising, vetting and drafting of legal
agreements in relation to the Authority ’s operations
Education Requirements
Professional Qualifications and Experience
For appointment to this position, a candidate must possess:
i. Bachelors of Laws degree from a recognized institution;
ii. Masters Degree in any of the following disciplines; Law, Business Administration, Public Administration, or equivalent qualifications from a recognized institution;
iii. Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Studies from the Kenya School of Law;
Experience Requirements
i. At least twelve (12) years in relevant work experience and at least five (5) years in senior management in the Public or Private Sector;
ii. Management course lasting not less than Four (4) weeks from a recognized institution;
iii. Leadership course lasting not less than Six (6) weeks from a recognized institution.
Skills and Competence
i. Admitted as an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya and in good standing;
ii. Must be Certified Public Secretary and a member of Institute Certified Secretaries in good standing;
i. Possess good oral and written communication skills including report writing;
iv. Have a good understanding of the SEZA Mandate;
v. Demonstrate a high degree of professionalism and competence in work performance;
vi. Be computer literate;
vii. Have good interpersonal, negotiations, and high leadership qualities.

(i) Kenya Revenue Authority (Tax Compliance Certificate);
(ii) Higher Education Loans Board (Compliance Certificate);
(iii) Commission for University Education for degrees obtained outside Kenya;
(iv) Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (Clearance Certificate);
(v) Directorate of Criminal Investigation (Certificate of Good Conduct);
(vi) Credit Reference Bureau (Clearance Certificate).
