POSITION: CARDIAC AND ECHO TECHNICIAN
POSITION TYPE: PERMANENT
LOCATION: KISUMU HOSPITAL
DEPARTMENT: MEDICAL SERVICES
REPORTS TO: MEDICAL SERVICES MANAGER
Job Objective/Purpose
Provide safe and high-quality Cardiac and Echo services in line with the hospital policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities
1. Performs cardiac and echo procedures.
2. Considering the age-specific physiological, emotional and
cognitive needs of the patient.
3. Perform pre-procedure assessment reviewing patient history
and physical examination.
4. Formulate a nursing care plan to address patient care goals and
ensure an excellent outcome.
5. Act as the team lead during cardiac and echo procedures
6. Prepare procedure room for the patient.
7. Perform a pre-procedure safety checklist to ensure patient
safety.
8. Document patient care activities and outcomes as per policies
and procedures.
9. Ensure continuity of patient care during the post procedure
phase with an effective handover.
10. Develop promotions and publicity for the cardiac and echo
services in collaboration with the marketing department.
11. Uses equipment and departmental resources appropriately.
a. Assists central scheduling with the accurate scheduling of
patient appointments.
b. Covers on-call schedule as assigned following departmental
procedures.
c. Maintains equipment, including cleaning and
disinfecting according to departmental IPC
procedures and processes.
d. Identify problems with equipment and notifies
appropriate resources for diagnosis and repair and
assist with evaluation of new equipment.
12. Ensure financial objectives of the cardiac and echo
Service are met by;
a. Managing costs within budget.
b. Timely and accurate billing.
c. Ensuring an invoice rejection rate of < 1% by
enforcing exclusions, guaranteeing the necessary
pre-authorizations and proper documentation and
following through with the credit control team.
13. Patient satisfaction and confidentiality:
a. Ensure patient satisfaction through quality of care,
communication and collection of feedback from
patients as determined in the KPI using the
standardized patient satisfaction tools.
b. Always maintain client/patient privacy and
confidentiality
14. Provide monthly reports to the line manager and
senior hospital management on the performance of
the cardiac & echo Services.
Person Specification
1. Diploma in Nursing, Clinical Medicine or equivalent medical training
2. Certificate in Echocardiography
3. Up-to-date BLS, ACLS, ATLS Certificate
4. At least 2 years’ experience in Cardiac Echo and other Diagnostic
5. Good Interpersonal and communication skills
6. Customer focus
