Job Description

Welthungerhilfe is one of the largest private aid organizations in Germany, with no political or religious affiliation. It was founded in 1962 under the umbrella of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). At that time, it was the German section of the ‘Freedom from Hunger Campaign’, one of the first global initiatives for the fight against hunger. Welthungerhilfe works under the leadership of an honorary board and the patronage of the German Federal President. We provide integrated aid: from rapid disaster relief to long-term development cooperation projects. Welthungerhilfe in Kenya implements a range of activities including: (i) Water Sanitation and Hygiene, (ii) Agriculture and Natural Resource Management, (iii) Disaster Risk Management and Climate Change Adaptation, and (iv) Social Development and Education.
We are currently looking for qualified personnel to fill the position of Civil Society Head of Project, for a fixed term period of one year to be based at our country office in Nairobi.

Position’s objective:
The aims of the job are to manage and implement the project on the basis of specified
directives in terms of content, schedule and budget. The project is carried out in accordance with Welthungerhilfe standards and directives/provisions of the co-financer.
The Head of Project is responsible for the operative implementation of the project and the appropriate use of funds. She/he is responsible for coordination, planning and implementation, correctly and duly reporting to Welthungerhilfe’s Country Office.

Duties and areas of responsibility:
1. Conceptualize and elaborate a new muti-country partner approach for WHH Kenya/
Somalia in close cooperation with the Country Director and Head of Programmes.
2. Conduct systematic partner scoping to identify potential future partners including civil
society, private sector and academia to establish a partner pool in Kenya.
3. Ensure application and compliance in regard to documentation, contract management
and knowledge management
4. Be familiar with partner assessment tools and design of capacity development plans.
5. Ensure and follow up on the implementation of capacity development plans and regular meetings
6. Facilitate knowledge transfer and learning between WHHs partner organisations in
Kenya
7. Support partner organisations in fundraising through the development of concept notes and design of project proposals
8. Facilitate the improvement of the partners MEAL systems in close coordination with
WHH MEAL expert.
9. Ensure quality reporting and compliance with donor requirements
10. Represent WHH vis-à-vis civil society and participate in relevant event, forum and
platforms.
11. Support to organise events and trainings for partners
12. Introduce partners to WHH Code of Conduct and train in the area of Core Humanitarian standards
13. Support the establishment of systems for CRM within partner organisations.
14. Coordinate with HoPs for the required support in partner engagement
15. Regularly follow up with partners and organisation progress meetings as required.
16. Support the development of a WHH Kenya/ partnership strategy in line with
localization agenda

KEN1202 Chukua Control Project Management
1. Act as Head of Project overseeing partner organization/s in implementation of
activities, incl. review of reporting, approval processes and knowledge management
(ProMIS)
2. Support Partner Organisations in hiring consultancies for capacity building of selected
local/national organizations
3. Organize WHH-led capacity building sessions of partners in areas such as compliance,
rules and regulations of BMZ and WHH, reporting and accounting
4. Establish maturity index system to rank partner organizations and lead assessment of
partner organizations alongside Partner Organisations
5. Review capacity assessments of existing partners and develop capacity strengthening plans adapted to organizational needs
To qualify as Civil Society Head of Project, the candidate must possess the following:
• Preferably Master Degree in Social Science, Gender and Women studies, Advocacy
or other relevant advanced educational degree from a recognized institution or
Bachelor's degree with 5 years minimum experience in lieu of Master's degree;
• At least 3 years of relevant experience in civil society, peace building, governance,
women empowerment
• Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of civil society and development trends
• Experience working with NGOs, INGOs, the UN agencies
• Knowledge and understanding or related political and peace processes.
• Solid understanding of development concepts and approaches as well as local
development.
• Understanding of community needs and livelihood needs in the project area xxx
• Demonstrated experience and success in project, financial, staff and partner grant
management, program monitoring and evaluation and excellent report writing skills
(in English).
• Written and verbal proficiency in English
• Good interpersonal skills, good communication, organizational and analytical skills
and ability to work well in a team.
• Good understanding of local partnerships and capacity building to ensure quality
implementation and minimize risk.
• Able to work effectively under and adapt to difficult conditions.
• Excellent computer skills.
