PRINCIPAL INSTRUCTOR (POLYTECHNIC), JOB GROUP ‘N’ (CPSB 06) – TWO (2) POSTS

Salary Scale: Kshs: 56,370 x 2750 – 59,120 x 2,850 – 62,040 x 2,950 – 65,120 x 3,440 –
68,560 x 3,590 – 72,150 x 3,790 – 75,940 x 3,890 – 79,740 x 3,810 – 83,550 p.m.
Duties and Responsibilities:-
i. Instructing in the area of specialization;
ii. Participating in the development of instructional methods in the area of
specialization in conjunction with other instructors/Lecturers;
iii. Coordinating and assessing practical assignments for trainees;
iv. Preparing and planning of maintenance schedules; advising on instructional
methods and technical matters;
v. Designing projects for trainees and guiding junior instructors;
vi. Coordinating practical training programmes in the area of specialization;
vii. Evaluating progress and overall performance of individual trainees;
viii. Developing practical training course/programmes in the area of specialization;
ix. Designing technical training materials including teaching and instructional aids;
and
x. Supervising the maintenance and repair of various machines, equipment and
teaching aids; and supervising instructors in areas of specialization. In addition,
the officer will prepare lesson plans, assess and mark practical work for students.
Requirements for Appointment
For appointment to this grade, an officer must have: -
i. Served in the grade of Chief Instructor for a minimum period of three (3) years;
ii. Bachelor’s degree in any of the following disciplines:-
Electrical Engineering;
Mechanical Engineering;
Electronics Engineering;
Civil Engineering;
Building Construction;
Clothing and Textiles Technology;
Leather Technology;
Food Technology;
Food and Beverage;
Industrial Engineering and Technology, Entrepreneurship Development;
Commerce, Business Administration/Management, Economics;
Information Technology;
Community Development Counseling/Psychology;
Computer Engineering;
Information Communication Technology, Physics;
Chemistry, Biochemistry;
Plant and Building Services Engineering;
Agricultural Engineering;
Water Engineering;
Telecommunication Engineering;
Mechatronics Engineering;
Refrigeration and Air Conditioning;
Industrial Technology; Mathematics, Human Resource Management;
Renewable Energy Technology;
Education Technology;
Clothing, Textiles and Interior Design;
Fashion Design and Marketing;
Fashion Design and Textiles Technology or its equivalent qualification from a
recognized institution;
iii. Instructors Training Certificate lasting not less than six (6) months from a
recognized Institution;
iv. Certificate in Supervisory Skills Course lasting not less than two (2) weeks from
a recognized institution;
v. Certificate of membership to a Professional body from a recognized institution;
vi. Certificate in Senior Management Course lasting not less than four (4) weeks
from a recognized institution;
vii. Certificate in computer application skills; and
viii. Demonstrated merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results.
