PRINCIPAL LABORATORY ANALYST - (KMFRI GRADE 5) - POSITION – ONE (1)
• Basic Salary Scale: KShs. 116,410 – KShs. 151,334 P.M.
• House Allowance: KShs. 35,000 P.M.
• Commuter Allowance: KShs. 8,000 P.M.
• Annual Leave Allowance: KShs. 10,000 P.A.
• Medical Cover & Other Allowances: As provided by KMFRI
• Terms of Service: Permanent & Pensionable
(a) The duties and responsibilities of the officer will entail: -
i. Coordinating specialized laboratory units;
ii. Implementing the standard operating procedures in specialized laboratories;
iii. Validating new analytical techniques and kits;
iv. Preparing workplans for the department;
v. Requisitioning laboratory consumables;
vi. Undertaking data analysis;
vii. Preparing, managing and safely disposing samples and specimens;
viii. Carrying out analytical work;
ix. Supervising safe laboratory waste disposal;
x. Preparing laboratory manuals and quality specifications;
xi. Formulating technical laboratory standards;
xii. coordinating provision of laboratory services in a number of units/sections;
xiii. Maintaining and preserving specimens and cultures;
xiv. Recording of experimental data;
xv. Keeping laboratory records;
xvi. Carrying out routine calibration and preventive maintenance of laboratory equipment;
xvii. Ensuring laboratory safety; and
xviii. Guiding junior laboratory personnel.
(b) Requirements for Appointment/Person Specification
For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have: -
i. A minimum of six (6) years of relevant work experience, three (3) of which must be in the position of Senior Laboratory Analyst or its equivalent in the public or private sector;
ii. Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) with a minimum grade of C plus (C+) or equivalent;
iii. Bachelor’s Degree in any of the following disciplines; Applied Biology, Food technology, Analytical Chemistry, Biotechnology, Microbiology, Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, or equivalent, from a recognized institution;
iv. A Supervisory Course lasting not less than two (2) weeks from a recognized institution;
v. Proficiency in computer applications; and
vi. Meets the requirements of Chapter 6 of the Constitution.
