REF: TUR/CPSB/037/2022/2023; DEPUTY DIRECTOR AGRICULTURE, JOB
GROUP “Q”, POSITION: ONE (1)
Deputy Director Agriculture will be responsible to County Director Agriculture in matters related
to Irrigation in the County.
Duties and responsibilities
a) Initiating formulation of policies and programmes for agricultural development;
b) Coordinating training of graduate engineers and technicians;
c) Supervising preparation of irrigation tender documents;
d) Validating reports and socio-economic and environmental impact of agricultural development;
e) Promoting research and innovation in agricultural sector;
f) Carrying out monitoring and evaluation of programmmes and projects;
g) Coordinating the planning, designing and construction, operation and maintenance of irrigation
systems.
h) Any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.
Requirement for appointment
For appointment in this grade, a candidate must have: -
i) Served in the grade of Assistant Director of Agriculture for a minimum period of three (3)
years or in any comparable and relevant position in the Public Service or Public Sector;
j) Bachelor’s degree in any of the following discipline: Agricultural Engineering, Agricultural
and Bio-Systems Engineering, Soil Water and Environment Environmental Engineering,
Environmental and Bio-System Engineering, Biomechanical and Processing Engineering, Soil
and Water Engineering or any other equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;
k) Master’s degree in any of the following discipline: Agricultural Engineering, Agricultural and
Bio-Systems Engineering, Soil Water and Environment Environmental Engineering,
Environmental and Bio-System Engineering, Biomechanical and Processing Engineering, Soil
and Water Engineering or any other equivalent qualification from a recognized institution will
be added advantage;
l) Registered as engineer with Engineers Registration Board (ERB);
m) Membership with the institute of Engineers of Kenya (IEK);
n) Attended Senior Management Course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognized
institution in Kenya;
o) Certificate in Computer Application from a recognized institution; and
p) Demonstrate a thorough understanding for national goals, policies, objectives and the ability
to relate them to the irrigation function
