Salary scale: Ksh.115, 290 x 5,770 – 121,060 x 6,050 – 127,110 x 6,240 – 133,350 x
6,420 – 139,770 x 6,610 – 146,380 x6, 790 – 153,170 p.m.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Director Economic Planning will be responsible to the Chief Officer, Economic
Planning (Central Planning) for coordination of county development planning,
monitoring and evaluation of programmes and management of county statistics.
Specific duties and responsibilities include:-
(i) Heading of central planning and project monitoring in the county
(ii) Directing economic planning functions or production of statistical data at
County level;
(iii) Coordinating and formulating of County development strategies, policies and
programmes within the department responsible for County economic planning
and in other departments for collation and presentation of statistical data in
the form of survey reports and bulleting;
(iv) Preparing of County development plans and coordination of County positions
on national economic subjects;
(v) Monitoring and evaluation of policies and programmes.
(vi) Planning and projection of manpower needs and training to meet County
development objectives, population surveys and compilation of data for
planning and social services, manpower surveys and in conjunction with the
department responsible for employment, undertaking labour force studies and
monitoring employees in the County.
(vii) Assisting in collection, collation, processing and administration of statistical
data in line with the Statistics Act.
(viii) Formulating coordinated strategies, policies and programmes for the
harmonious development of economic sectors, carrying out sector studies and
research, monitoring changes in key indicators of sectoral economic
structures, trends and efficiency.
(ix) Supervising of staff in the directorate.
Requirements for Appointment
For appointment to the grade, an officer must have:-
(i) Served in the grade of Deputy Chief Economist / Deputy Chief Statistician for
at least three[3] years or other comparable and relevant position in the
economic planning or compilation and production of statistical data for national
economic planning and development for at least twelve[12] years of which
three[3] years must be a Senior Economic Policy Research/Planning Position;
(ii) Demonstrated outstanding professional competence matched with proper
appreciation on the Country’s economic development needs at the County,
Regional and National levels and the strategies necessary to meet them;
(iii) Demonstrated a high degree of administrative capability coupled with wide
experience in economic planning or the production and interpretation of
statistical data; and
(iv) Attained qualifications in Economics or Statistics of at least Masters of Arts
[MA], Masters of Science [MSc] or Master of Philosophy [MPhil.] Level or the
equivalent recognized qualification.
(v) Satisfy the requirements of chapter six of the Constitution of Kenya.
