Salary scale: Ksh.115, 290 x 5,770 – 121,060 x 6,050 – 127,110 x 6,240 – 133,350 x
6,420 – 139,770 x 6,610 – 146,380 x6, 790 – 153,170 p.m.
The Director Fisheries will be responsible to Chief Officer-Livestock, Fisheries and
Cooperative Management for management and coordination of Fisheries activities.
Specific duties and responsibilities at this level will entail:-
(i) Coordinating extension activities which include field days, agricultural shows,
field demonstrations, farmer field schools and farm visits;
(ii) Participating in the development of public/private initiatives and overall policy
formulation;
(iii) Preparing technical information in fisheries, fish marketing, aquaculture;
(iv) Promoting economic fish farming; resourcing in technical workshops and
seminars;
(v) Researching, inventing and advising on fisheries technologies and techniques;
(vi) Developing fisheries programmes/projects;
(vii) Preparing agribusiness, ponds and farm plans;
(viii) Establishing linkages with research institutions and other stakeholders on
fisheries matters; coordinating conservation and utilization of aquatic
resources.
(xii) In addition, the Director will also be responsible for overseeing extension
activities; overseeing the implementation of fisheries information management
systems; coordinating monitoring and evaluation of fisheries programmes;
preparing technical papers and reports for professional forums and symposia;
participating in the formulation of fisheries bi-lateral/multilateral agreements
and be responsible for staff supervision, development and appraisal in the
Directorate.
Requirements for Appointment
For appointment to this grade, an officer must have: -
(i) Served in the grade of Senior Assistant Director Fisheries for a minimum period
of three (3) years;
(ii) Hold a Bachelor’s Degree in any of the following disciplines: - Animal Science,
Animal Production, Agriculture, Apiculture, Food Science and Technology,
Agribusiness, Range Management, Natural Resource Management,
Livestock/Agricultural Economics, or Agricultural Education and Extension from
a recognized institution;
(iii) Master’s degree in any of the following disciplines: - Animal Science, Animal
Production, Agriculture, Apiculture, Agribusiness, Food Science and
Technology, Agriculture and Home Economics, Range Management, Natural
Resource Management, Livestock/Agriculture Economics, Dairy Technology,
Agricultural Extension, Animal Breeding and Genetics or Animal Nutrition form
a recognized institution;
(iv) Certificate in Strategic Leadership Development Programme lasting not less
than six (6) weeks from a recognized institution.
(v) Certificate in Computer Applications from a recognized institution; and
(vi) Shown outstanding administrative capability and professional competence
required in managing livestock production services.
(vii) Satisfy the requirements of chapter six of the Constitution of Kenya.
